Job Description

A leading geo-data specialist is seeking two Proposal Managers to join their team. Working as a pivotal part of the team within their UK land & coastal site investigation commercial team, you will primarily be responsible for writing proposals for UK land and coastal based geotechnical projects, while maintaining excellent relationships with clients, responding to enquiries and identifying future opportunities.

Your key responsibilities will include the review of client provided Invitations to Tender (ITT) and using your technical and commercial knowledge to plan surveys by engaging relevant internal stakeholders, assigning relevant resources, identifying areas of innovation, preparing schedules, building prices, identifying project risks, writing the tender documents and liaising with clients.

• You are someone who enjoys the detailed work of tender production.
• You come from a geotechnical or civil engineering background with a good understanding of the principles of commercial tendering
• You have a commercial, project management or civil engineering sales background.

Here’s what a typical day would be like:
• Leading and monitoring proposal coordination, reviewing Invitations to Tender, checking technical and commercial requirements, and raising any issues to management
• Preparing bid/no bid analysis and completing tender signoffs with senior management
• Acting as a point of contact for the wider team for the production of proposals and input into wider group tenders
• Evaluating technical and commercial risk, ensuring those risks are accepted, managed, priced, or transferred as appropriate
• Conducting commercial and technical negotiation with clients in order to secure contract award ensuring that proposed solutions are safe, profitable and that risks are mitigated.
• Preparing and presenting technical and commercial tender handover packages to project Managers for kick off meetings.

Who we’re looking for:
Essential:
• BSc or equivalent qualification in Engineering Geology, Geotechnics or Civil Engineering or relevant equivalent commercial, management or sales experience.
• Extensive experience in a similar industry.
• Skilled strategic problem solver with excellent inter-personal and written communication with a methodical common-sense approach and strong attention to detail
• Client orientated approach.
• Motivated and enthusiastic with a drive to succeed across a multi-disciplinary team.
• Strong numeracy skills with good Microsoft Office capabilities in particular Excel, MS Project and O365 software
• Experience of producing written deliverables.

Desirable:
• Experience writing or costing commercial proposals
• Ability to think outside the box and design innovative solutions or schedules
• Business development and negotiation experience
