UK Power Networks Services require an experienced Bid Manager for the development of bids. The purpose of the role is to assemble a team to prepare a winning bid, whilst taking ownership of the end-to-end bid process, assume responsibility for an opportunity during the ‘propose’ phase of the Business Development Process; including value proposition / strategy development, solution development, commercial considerations, and risk management and to introduce and implement all necessary bid procedures, governance and processes.

The Bid Manager will work under the instruction of the Business Operations Manager – Proposals Lead and will interface with the various stakeholders as required.

The individual should be able to effectively lead teams both with and without direct line responsibility to achieve a high bid conversion rate (exceeding 70% by both number and value). The individual will need to be self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision. They must be a good communicator with excellent inter-personal skills and must represent UK Power Network Services’ best company values with both internal and external stakeholders. They will also need to have good relationship skills and the ability to make a positive contribution to the successful delivery of targets.

o Ensure the timely delivery of compliant and commercially sound bids within customer defined timescales.
o Manage virtual bid teams and inputs from multiple stakeholders.
o Communicate and influence at the senior level internally and with clients.
o Understand and resolve complex technical, strategic and business issues – to arrive at the winning bid strategy.
o Contribute to the written proposal – both in terms of content and presentation – including writing the executive summary.
o Coordinate and review / edit bid inputs – quality assurance.
o Prepare and review the commercial aspects of the bid, ensuring that everything is included in the final price.
o Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process.
o Arrange all post bid submission exchanges / reviews with the client.
o Lead post submission ‘lessons learnt’ reviews.
o Stand in the customer shoes, act as the ‘Voice of the Customer’.

o Ability to prioritise when dealing with multiple deadlines and deliverables.
o Ability to lead and direct large teams to deadlines.
o Strong written English language skills with high attention to detail.
o Demonstrable bid management experience.
o Experience in relevant industry.
o The ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines.
o Strong people management and commercial skills.
o Sound understanding of P&L and risk management skills.
o Comfortable working at ‘C’ suite level.
o Ability to coach Subject Matter Experts in persuasive writing and bid management best practice.

o Educated to Degree level is essential.
o APMP Practitioner or Professional level is desirable.
o Advanced MS Word skill and proficient in MS Office.
