Job Description

Our client, an independent property services & maintenance company is seeking an experienced Head of Bid & Business Development to work within and manage its small bid team (currently two Bid Managers).

As Head of Bid & Business Development you will have a key responsibility to actively build relationships and gather information on new / target clients. Seek out and develop a pipeline of future opportunities prior to any tender process commencing i.e., blue sky opportunities. Lead the strategy, design and delivery of proposals, presentations and other sales collateral that differentiate from the competition and inspire the delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities:
• Build relationships and gather information on new / target clients
• Develop a pipeline of future opportunities with new and existing clients
• Develop winning business development strategies and proactively engage with customers to establish relationships and secure new and retained business opportunities
• Work with the team to create winning bids and presentations in response to tender opportunities
• Define and develop a robust, integrated sales strategy to drive the bid process
• Development of the current approach to bid responses and improvement of existing bid materials and processes
• Work with suppliers to secure prices and solutions that support the bid
• Encourage innovative thinking and differentiated offerings into bid submissions
• Write or oversee the drafting of articulate, concise content, executive summaries, presentations and other documents as required
• Embed a rigorous internal process and company culture that ensures the right focus on bids and client requirements
• Managing bid strategy meetings confidently, inspiring enthusiasm and support for the bid
• Ensure that bid submissions are visually distinctive
• Support updating and registering of opportunities for tracking and pipeline management purposes
• Coaching and guiding individuals and team on effective presentation techniques, both through ad-hoc workshops and specific pitch rehearsals as part of the bid process, delivering feedback on performance
• Conduct a post implementation review for each proposal submission

Key Experience / Skills:
• Experience of property / social housing and / or local authority bidding is desirable
• Demonstrable experience and success in bid management and business development
• Outstanding relationship building skills, internally and with potential clients, intermediaries and contacts
• Strong people management skills, with previous team management experience and the ability to motivate and influence others to deliver
• Excellent communication skills are essential – in particular a demonstrably high level of written and spoken English
• Confidence, resilience, determination and enthusiasm
• Team player, with the ability to manage and motivate both upwards and downwards
• Track record of creative thinking and innovation
