Our client based in Leeds is seeking an experienced Group Bid Manager to step into a well-established and key role within their business – providing maternity cover for a 16-month period.

This role reports to the Group Strategic Development Manager and will manage an established bid team of three (two bid writers and an administrator) and oversee a busy bid / proposal output schedule across their three service disciplines.

This is very much a hands-on writing and management role, leading from the front, guiding and developing the team, controlling bid volumes, liaising with a range of bid contributors across the business and ensuring the overall quality and timely output of the team, to continually win bids.

They are primarily looking for an individual who has demonstrable experience of running a bid function/team within a busy commercial environment, who understands and can practice the core elements of managing and assembling a winning bid.

They do envisage an extended handover period, working with the existing Bid Manager, prior to assuming overall responsibility – plus a similar, extended handover at the end of the assignment, hence the 16-month term of the position.

Specific Tasks/Responsibilities
” Overseeing the written and editorial aspects of the bid and proposal development process
” Communicating requirements, deadlines and expectations to key stakeholders and the bid/proposal team
” Monitoring/Maintaining the bid / proposal library, author content, computer-generated graphics and editing text produced by other members of the proposal team
” Checking drafts for read-ability, clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and formatting
” Producing high quality documents and ensuring completed bids / proposals meet the bid specifications
” Preparing content for, and attending, bid / proposal client meetings and interviews
” Managing, supporting and mentoring a dedicated bid team
” Providing monthly reports on team progress / targets, which are generated for the Group Strategic Development Manager.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge
” 3-5 years’ experience of senior bid writing and management
” Excellent writing and communication skills
” The ability to fit in with, lead and motivate a small team of writers to ensure they continually develop and work to a high standard
” The ability to write about complex, technical concepts in easy-to-understand ways and convey ideas graphically
” Advanced MS Word skills & proficient in MS Office
